Scenes from a memorable wildfire smoke-filtered sunrise shoot with realtor, Anna Alvarez (@iterationhome), at her latest listing, a 1923 Mediterranean-style home on East Grand Rapids’ idyllic Plymouth “Boulevard”, lovingly restored by @sarahshermansamuel and husband, Rupert, of @sss__builds! The castle-like home was built under the direction of Daniel Steketee of the bygone Steketee’s department store in Grand Rapids which began in 1862, eventually expanding to an 8-story flagship store downtown and several satellite stores throughout West Michigan until 2003 when the last one closed in Kalamazoo. The Canadian wildfire haze that day made for a rare blanket of pink in the eastern sky for a few minutes. Also rare (for Michigan) was the Spanish clay tile roof—the first time I’ve ever shot a home with such a roof!
